Reed
Edwards with a young Wiescamp-Casement cross
gelding that he raised

Edwards
Quarter Horses is located in the heart of the
south, in the rolling hills of upstate South
Carolina. Emphasis is placed on raising a pretty,
all-around athlete with the intelligence to excel
at any task they encounter. Reed Edwards was
originally drawn to the Old Fred family of horses
when he started researching the pedigree on one of
his old youth show horses. The mare was a
Wiescamp-Casement cross, and Reed was interested
in finding other horses that were a lot like her.
After studying various pedigrees and pictures for
hints at conformation types, Reed was pretty well
convinced that the Old Fred family of horses would
have the right combination of athletic ability,
conformation and disposition.
That
original mare, Charmin Shadow, has become the
foundation for the breeding program now in
progress outside of Laurens, SC. She is by Silents
Shadow (Skip
Silent x Music
Mount bred mare), an AQHA Champion with
superiors in halter and western pleasure. She is
out of a granddaughter of Old
Tom Cat, a AAA AQHA Champion horse that was
raised by Jack Casement of Sterling, Colorado.
Jack Casement and Marshal Peavy, two breeders who
ended up in Eastern Colorado, once lived near Coke
Roberds in Routt County, Colorado, and had horses
of Old
Fred-Peter
McCue parentage. Her 1997 daughter by Silent
Secret (an own son of Sailalong) has now been added to brood mare duty.
"Charmin"
has been followed by two granddaughters of Old
Tom Cat that are by an AQHA champion son of Skip
School Day. The cross of the Wiescamp
bloodlines on the Old Tom Cat bred mares has
worked well, and they have a very good balance of
conformation, athletic ability, and disposition.
They also have a good shot of speed thanks to Old
Tom Cat. Spanish Madera, a palomino daughter of
PHBA champion Spanish Supreme, rounds out the
brood mare band.
Bar
O Show Music, a four stocking legged bay
stallion raised by Warren Shoemaker, is the sire
at Edwards Quarter Horses. Bar O Show Music is by Bar
O Music (Pawnee
Hawk x My Music Lady by Music
Mount), and out of One Show Lady (Show
Cash x Miss Oar Lock by Mister
Nugget). He is a halter and performance point
earning sire, and is the sire of Show Note, the
1996 International High Point Halter Aged
Stallion. Several of his daughters are being
retained for future use as brood mares. Off-spring
of Bar O Show Music daughters either have been, or
been among, the high selling horses at the
Shoemaker-Skipper W Bloodlines session of the
October Triangle Sale in Shawnee, Oklahoma, the
last two years.
Edwards
Quarter Horses is staying true to the original
type of Old Fred bred horse, raising a pretty,
all-around athlete. The horses raised by Si
Dawson, Coke Roberds, Warren Shoemaker, Mars-hall
Peavy, Jack Casement, Hank Wiescamp and others
were bred to do it all. In an age when
specia-lization in horses is the trend, Edwards
Quarter Horses continues to raise a horse with the
ability to perform many tasks well. Edwards
Quarter Horses welcomes visitors, and can be
