Ridge Ranches
Moab, Utah
Hi,
my name is Jick Taylor. I run Taylor Ridge
ranches. My parents are Joe Taylor and Karla
Taylor. I was raised on a cattle and horse ranch
near Moab, Utah.
On
May 12, 1973, my dad was at a quarter horse
show in Price, Utah. My mom was in the hospital
waiting for my arrival. Dad's friends told him he
needed to be in Moab, but dad had to win one more
all around with NATTAT (a mare who still has a
daughter in the breeding program of Taylor Ridge
Ranches). This was kind of the pattern of our
family life. Horses and horse shows were real
important to my parents. I am going to turn over
the chronology of the stallions of this
family to my dad, Joe Taylor. I forget some of
them.
Hello
folks, this is Joe Taylor. I am going to
chronologically list the stallions used on our
family ranch;
The
first stallion was BUSHMAN. He was by a son of
Plaudit and out of a daughter of Prince/Coke T.
Next came SPANISH RULER, an AQHA champion son of
Spanish Nick out of a daughter of Skippers King.
Next we used SKIPS MAJOR, a 3/4 brother to
Skippers King. SIX MASTERS was by Sheiks
Review out of Six Skips. He was a world champion
sire. The next horse was the best individual and
the greatest sire; SURENUFFSKIPPA was by Skippa
Lark out of Skips Tabu. He was a very consistent
sire in both quality and disposition.
We
then got SKIP N CHOICE, who was by Skip N Go out
of a daughter of Skip On. PREMIUM SKIP was an
AQHA Champion. He arrived well known and
with a big following. He never really adjusted to
life on a rural ranch. But he gave us some nice
babies. Several stallions by PREMIUM SKIP were
born here. SKIPPO WRACK was here one season,
gave us some fancy fillies. Next came SKIP
AND BID. He was line bred to Skippers King, 16
hands tall. We have several daughters by him just
now starting to produce in our broodmare band.
Along
in here someplace we started to use JUSTENUFF
SKIPPA, a stallion we raised. His sire is
SURENUFFSKIPPA, his dam the great superior halter
mare SPANISH CORDETTE. He has always gotten
limited use due to being so closely related to
most of our mares.
MEXICALI
PRINCESS, the mare who won the all-around saddle
at the first Old Fred-Skipper W Show is his first
daughter, we have several more daughters that are
at the top end of the young mares of our
breeding program.
Probably the
long suit of the “Justen” foals is their
riding ability and cow sense. The ropers and
ranchers really like them. Also, STRIP TO SKIP, a
doublebred son placed at the 2004 AQHA world.
History will show him to be a breeding horse.
Next
we acquired SKIPPA STAINTS from the Wiescamp
family. Amid rumors of him being sterile, we tried
him anyway. He had long been a favorite of mine on
the stallion alley at the Wiescamp ranch. He was a
lot of work to breed, but fertile. We have kept
several fillies and 3 young stallions by him for
our program, but decided he could get more foals
closer to a horse vet. He now resides with Shane
Truby of Bayfield, CO. Shane has a fine set of
mares, befitting the quality of SKIPPA STAINTS. We
retained a breeding interest.
Next we had the good fortune
of becoming the caretaker of SKIPPERS ZANE, the
legend horse. Tragically we lost him in an
accident out with the mares in June of 2005. We
expect around 10 foals in 2006. In late spring of
2004 we found SKIPS WESTERN at Jim Sinkbeil’s
ranch. He had the size and pedigree we had been
searching for. Plus his dam was one of the best
mares to come from Alamosa. His first foals have
just arrived and are real nice. In late winter of
2005 I was delivering mares to Jim Snow in Texas.
He had a stallion there I had seen before, but
never looked at. His name is SOCIAL SHEM. I guess
you could say it was love at third sight, because
I had seen him twice before, and had overlooked
him. He is by SKIPPERS SHEM out of SOCIAL BARBA,
the last mare shown by HJ Wiescamp. We are real
excited about this stallion. We got about half the
mares bred to him.
Our
broodmares are a mix of the above stallions’
pedigrees. Come by and see our mix and match
program. We have full sisters, full cousins,
always trying to get them both prettier and more
athletic.

website is taylorcreekranch.com. We will
try to keep it updated better in the future.
