Spotlight on Our Member!
Fred
& Nancy Fick, Longmont, Colorado
The
first encounter that we had with Hank Weiscamp was
on a day in February of 1973. We had owned a few
horses since 1964. Fred had had horses off and on
since he was in grade school. There was a horse
called Skip
N Go that caught our eye at one of the horse
shows in our area. We thought he was the best
thing we had ever seen. One morning we just
decided to go see where he came from, so off to
Alamosa, Colorado we went.
We
popped in unannounced and the first thing Hank
asked us was what did we want. We told him that we
wanted to look at some good horses. He said "
you should have gone to Texas because they tell me
that's where all the good ones are." We
visited with Hank for a few hours and then he
showed us a million horses. They were all one
kind. There was one that we thought was maybe even
a little better than Skip
N Go. The following year we purchased a
palomino stallion Spanish
Native from Hank. We still have one of his
daughters.

Through
the years we purchased a few mares
from Hank to go with the stallion.
The first foal that we had, Kotter
Key Scotch, was out of a mare who
was by The
Scotchman that we previously
owned. Kotter Key Scotch
accumulated a total of 520 AQHA
points in open and youth classes.
We bred and raised Kotter Key
Illusions, Kotter Key Captain and Kotter
Key Major, who all earned AQHA
halter points. Kotter Key Melody
earned halter points in the
Buckskin Association and Kotter
Key Gunner was the high
point stallion of the Colorado
Palomino Association.

Kotter
Key Gunner is by the horse that we
bought from the Weiscamp estate after Hank
died. His name is Skipper
Wring. This is the first year that
we've had a filly by Skipper
Wring so we are very excited about
that. This year also we purchased a very
nice mare, Skip Spanish Union, from the
Allreds.
We have always been more interested in
breeding the horses than the showing part,
even though we still go to a few shows. |

All of our mares
are predominantly Wiescamp bloodlines. We
are a mom and pop operation and only have
five or six mares at a time, but that's
enough to keep us busy. If you are ever in
the area please stop by and visit with us. |
