Willis Quarter Horses was started in 1951
when Denny bought his first registered
Quarter Horse.
He has been breeding Wiescamp
horses since 1973.
On his vacations he would go to
Alamosa and help Hank Wiescamp on his
ranch.
Hank would explain his breeding
program and they would talk about
pedigrees.
He told Denny that when he was
ready he would sell him whatever he
wanted.
In 1980 he
married Carol Tye, from a West Texas
ranching family.
Carol was head of the Registration
Department for the American Paint Horse
Association.
In 1981 they
bought their first branded mare, Social
Stylist.
At that time they decided to buy
all of their horses from Hank.
One of the horses was an own
daughter of Skips Cadet, Skip N Kim.
She was due to foal that year.
The colt she had was named Skip N
Jay who earned his AQHA Championship and
sired several AQHA Champions.
Another horse was Bright Flame.
She was a Triple A rated mare by
Bright Bar out of Gypsys Cowgirl.
In 1986 they purchased Skips
Assault from Hank.
This stallion was by Skip 3 Bars a
son of Skipperette out of Skip Covers, a
daughter of Skippers King.
Over the years they have tried to
keep as much Skippers King in their
breeding program as possible.
They have carried Skippers King
bloodlines through to their two junior
stallions.
In 1990
Denny and Carol purchased Skip N
Spray, an own daughter of Skippers Ring.
On a personal note, Denny
and Carol are the parents of three
children between them and six grandsons.
Denny’s son Tracy, trains western
pleasure and reining horses and is also an
AQHA judge.
A grandson, Casey Willis, has won
the youth reining at the Congress three
times.
Denny’s’ youngest son had
Muscular Dystrophy and passed away in
1984.
Carol's son is retired from the Air Force.
One of her grandsons is currently
serving in the Army. Carol’s daughter
lives in Denver, Colorado.
They are charter
members of the Shoemaker~Skipper W
Bloodlines, Inc, Lifetime members of AQHA,
