| We
are all involved with the
Shoemaker-Skipper W family of horses
for a reason, we all have our own
reasons, our own experiences that
have led us down this particular
path. And I would venture to say
that most of us have known, or been
fortunate enough to own, some
particular horse that has been
special. For many, it might be a
breeding horse, or maybe a mare that
has produced the magic cross for us.
For others, it might be their first
horse, or maybe one that you got to
see somewhere that left a lasting
impression. A successful show horse,
or a true companion working his
heart out for you, or one whose life
somehow became interwoven with
yours.
I
think these special horses deserve
to have their stories told. You are
invited to add to this feature by
sending me the story about your
special horse.
From the inception of this group,
emphasis has been placed on
financial gain, success at shows,
and on who bought or sold a
particular horse. This is as it
should be. The majority of our
members treat their horses as a
business and promotion is necessary
for their success.
When
Barbara Loux's submission for the
"Special Horse" column
came, it immediately caught our
attention. It is a refreshing
departure from the constant
conversation about who won what
prize, who is selling which horses,
etc. It should remind us all that
there is probably a reason other
than money and fame that we became
involved with our horses in the
first place.
Thanks
Barbara, for the reminder and
inspiration - not all things can be
measured in ribbons and checks from
the horse sale…….
